Well-Typed are very pleased to support the establishment of the Haskell Foundation that was recently announced by Simon Peyton Jones.

The Haskell Foundation (HF) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to broadening the adoption of Haskell, by supporting its ecosystem of tools, libraries, education, and research.

We have been working with other members of the community over the past several months to help shape the foundation’s goals and structure to reflect the broad interests of the community.

These goals are completely in line with the founding goals of Well-Typed as a company, and with our priorities as individual members of the Haskell community.

In many ways the HF is an evolution and an improvement on ideas and schemes that we have tried before as a community, and that Well-Typed has been involved in as a company. For example, compared to the Industrial Haskell Group (IHG), the HF is genuinely independent. In relation to the Haskell.org committee, the HF does not replace it; rather the HF should help bring the commercial and open-source arms of our community closer together.

We hope that fundraising by the HF will bring great benefits to the open-source, commercial and academic parts of our community. Greater financial resources will enable more time to be dedicated to the organisation of efforts, and to improving tools, education and other shared needs.

We are proud to be founding sponsors.
